17 Years of Little Island: The Pub's History Since 2009
Little Island Irish Pub opened in Frydek-Mistek in July 2009, and in July 2026 it celebrates 17 years of continuous trading. Seventeen years of Guinness, whiskey and live music at tr. T. G. Masaryka 1129.
How did it all begin in 2009?
In the summer of 2009 a place opened in Frydek-Mistek that the town had been missing: a real Irish pub. Not a restaurant with a shamrock on the menu, but a pub with an interior inspired by genuine Irish locals: dark wood, cosy corners and a bar straight out of Dublin. It took its name from Little Island, a small island near Cork in Ireland, and it had a clear mission: to create a little island of Ireland in northern Moravia.
What hasn't changed in 17 years?
The foundations remain the same as on day one:
- Guinness and Magners on tap - Irish stout and cider, properly poured
- The whiskey library - the selection has grown to more than 50 whiskeys
- Live music - Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm belong to bands and musicians
- Sports broadcasts - football, rugby, the Six Nations
- The Irish function room - up to 40 guests, space for a DJ or a band, and the setting for hundreds of parties and celebrations
What has the pub survived?
Seventeen years is an eternity in hospitality. The average lifespan of a restaurant is measured in single-digit years, and in that time Little Island has weathered the post-2009 economic crisis, the rise and fall of fashionable concepts, and the Covid closures of 2020 and 2021. The recipe for longevity is Irish in its simplicity: keep doing the same thing, and do it properly.
How much beer is that, exactly?
We don't keep precise statistics, but count along with us: 17 years of trading, open six days a week, hundreds of evenings of live music and hundreds of matches shown on the screen. The pints of Guinness poured run into the hundreds of thousands, and nobody is counting the whiskey glasses any more.
Come and celebrate the seventeenth with us. We are open Monday to Thursday 2pm to 11pm, Friday until 4am, and Saturday 4pm to 4am. Book the function room on +420 775 354 883. Here's to the next seventeen years. Slainte!
